How lucky are we that we get to enjoy field work while lounging in one of the country’s hottest tourist spots.
This text post serves as sort of my journal entry, since 1) it’s much easier to type than to write down anything with a pen (doctor’s penmanship slowly developing!) and 2) I don’t keep a journal. Haha. Plainly for documentation’s sake, in case I forget. Which I doubt. :P

All 20 of us left for Kalibo around 1PM. From there we rode a 2 vans to Caticlan. Then a boat to Boracay Island, then finally multicabs to get to the resort we were going to live in for the next couple of days. They had 20 rooms with 10 beds each, and 4 of those were ours.
Right after we arrived we immediately aimed for water, a couple minutes walk from the resort. We didn’t even bother unpacking. Hehe. We were just in time to witness the gorgeous sunset. Our first dinner, as a whole block in Boracay, was at Big Mouth. After dinner some of us went on to Club Paraw and Guilly’s Island. Others played card games at our rooms. We tucked in around 2:30AM. Haha.

This was the day 4B separated from 4A, because we had different hospitals to interview. Early morning breakfast was at Andok’s, after we played Frisbee. After that we went swimming again. Goggles were a must-buy for me since I was wearing contact lenses. Simultaneously, while “chilling”, we also took the time to survey the locals and tourists regarding health care in the island. We had lunch at Backyard BBQ where we shared large platters of seafood and meat, called SHE. Around 3PM we headed for the District Hospital to interview. It took us around 3 hours tops, but we got all the information and documents we needed. We then had dinner at Plato d’ Boracay (lots of food for cheap!), then lounged at the BomBom Bar. They had a nice acoustic band playing, and the lighting was …idk, intimate? It was dim and red, not too dark for it to be intimidating. Just enough for it to be cozy and appropriate for people-watching and star-gazing. Hehe.

We rose extra early to ride a trike to Station 1 where we took a swim. Same island but somehow better and finer sand. I don’t get it either. Haha. Afterwards we had a big breakfast at Jonah’s where I ate a tuna/cheese omelette and banana-choco-peanut milkshake. Yum.
We then went on to different activities. Some of us went parasailing, but since I’m such a coward when it comes to heights, I chose the other options instead. We first rode the Banana Boat, for 180php. There were 11 of us so we got the double-banana kind. Less likely to topple over, thus safer for me. Although nahulog pa din si JF. Hehe. Helmet Dive came next, for 250php. The “helmet” was super-kaduper-25kg-heavy, and we were maybe around 15ft below sea level. We were given small pieces of bread to hold to attract the fish. Photos should be up soon, I haven’t seen them yet either. Hoho. Then we went island hopping, 2200php for a group of 12. First stop was for lunch, which took us more than an hour because of the poor service. Tsk. Snorkeling at another island next, and then just playing in the sand on another island. By the time we were back, we were exhausted.
But we weren’t ready for the day to end just yet, so we lounged at Azzuro (?) Restaurant while waiting for the sun to set. For dinner we had a buffet at La Carmela Resort, which was relatively cheap at 270php, I think. Most other buffets costed 500php. Videoke and fire dancing afterward cost me 50php (best 50 pesos ever spent on Boracay!). Some of us then tried Summer Place, but it wasn’t my thing, so I left early. There were so many foreigners there, I felt like I was the minority. Hahaha. While walking home we star-gazed a bit. I missed watching stars. I couldn’t do that here in Manila. This day was the longest day of all, I was up from 6AM to 4AM the next day. Haha.

This is the day we left Boracay, so after a quick brunch at Andok’s and Jonah’s, we left to go souvenir shopping. 12 pieces of keychains for 150php and 2 t-shirts for 170php, not bad. I also got a henna tattoo; a star is on my wrist and a sun tribal symbol of some sort is on my ankle. I really wanted “infinite” in cursive, but the man said that would’ve looked better with permanent ink. :( We got our last buy from Boracay: kalamansi cupcakes, then finally packed and left for the port via trike. From there we rode a fastbreak to the terminal where our van waited for us. At the airport I had a quick lunch of rice topping, and then we boarded the plane (where the girls all watched the cute flight attendant HAHA).
And then all too soon I was back in Manila and gearing for our report. Aww.
