» The Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Go To Medical School... And The Single Reason You Should
And now, the only reason why you should go into medicine:
You have only ever envisioned yourself as a doctor and can only derive professional fulfillment in life by taking care of sick people.
There’s really no other reason, and lord knows the world needs docs. Prestige, money, job security, making mom happy, proving something, can’t think of anything else to do, better than being a lawyer, etc are all incredibly bad reasons for becoming a doc.
Hmm. Sounds about right. So far, I still feel like I really am in it for the long haul. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else, as ridiculously cheesy as that might sound. Sure I rave and rant just as much as any other medstudent (or any student at all, for that matter), but I guess that’s just how I cope. Every frustrating moment is worth it, if only to hear patients’ thanks. I’m grateful that it still gives me flutters every time a patient smiles and thanks me after I take his/her history and PE, even though I cost her more time than she would have spent had I not been the one who checked her. Hehe. Hopefully this wouldn’t change even during clerkship, or internship, or residency, or even 20 years later into practice (of whichever field I still can’t decide on. Haha). :)
